Bath & District Football League - Match reports

Writer: Steve Webb of Oldfield Sports.
Oldfield again took to the pitch in an attempt to bury the nightmare
of an earlier 4-3 loss this season to Fry's and to stop the long run
of poor results against their bogey side.
With a bare eleven, Oldfield welcomed Kevin Scott for his debut
and Matt Amey made his first start of the season. The first-half
provided little in the way of opportunities, with Ben Brooks' header
being cleared off the line mid-way through the second-half being
the only point worth of note. After some struggles in the defensive
line at the start of the season, a settled back-four of Smith, Lovell,
Beresford and Rickards gave nothing away to an experienced Fry's
front line.
The second-half saw the game becoming stretched as the boggy surface
took effect. Chances came and went evenly with Fry's holding territorial
advantage, but Oldfield always threatening on the counter-attack.
Ben Brooks continued to be the main source of creativity in midfield
and continued to test both the fitness and ability of the older Fry's
team. As chances go, probably the best for Fry's came via the head
of debutant Kevin Scott, as he deflected a cross into what seemed
like an own goal, but keeper Steve Webb managed to deflect the ball
around the post. For Oldfield, a fine Ben Nelki strike was cleared
off the line.
A clean sheet and a committed performance from Oldfield should now
set them up for a positive second-half of the season. With Quarrie,
Touray, Miller and Thomas to come back into the squad, Oldfield should
look to improve their league position and provide the ten more wins
to bring up the hundred for manager, Scott Newport.
