Bath & District Football League - Match reports
Saturday January 8th 2005 -
CCB United 1 Oldfield Sports 3 (Bath City Cup 1st Round, Colerne)
Writer: Steve Webb of Oldfield Sports.
Oldfield began 2005 against old foes CCB Utd in the first round of
the Bath City Cup. Despite a procession of close contests between the
two sides, Oldfield came into the game having never lost to them in
90 minutes.
On a windy day both sides began in typical styles, Oldfield concentrating
on the counter-attack and CCB being more direct. The first-half was
predominantly a midfield battle with CCB narrowly edging things having
gained more shots on target. The second-half was very different.....
CCB took the lead ten minutes into the second-half with a well constructed
move allowing a simple one-on-one opportunity. In fairness to Oldfield's
defence, this was the only 'blot' on a superb performance. The response
was emphatic. Ben Nelki chipped the keeper from a difficult angle
to level the game before Wayne Quarrie took advantage of a defensive
mix-up to smash the ball into an open net. The final goal of the
game was the best of the game.
Ben Nelki acted quickly to find Wayne Quarrie from a throw-in in
an attacking position, Quarrie then rounded a CCB defender before
curly the ball past a floundering keeper to seal the game. The goals
capped a Man-of-the-Match performance from Wayne Quarrie, but special
mention should also be made to Ben Brooks & Andy Lovell who turned
in fine performances.
The game emphasised Oldfield's strong Cup form this season. With
Fry's Old Boys coming up next week, the test will be to see if this
can be transferred to the league......and their bogey team.
