Oval Sports Reserves 4 Freshford 0 (Odd
Down Playing Fields)
Writer: James Lindsay of Freshford Sports.
Having somehow beat Oval Sports first team earlier in the season, Freshford
approached the game with confidence and hoping to get their season back
on track after some recent heavy defeats.
Oval Sports Reserves continue to pursue their policy of bringing
youth team players into the rigors of the adult game whilst playing
alongside some excellent role models in Simon Carling, John Beaverstock
and Paddy. One or two "I'm 21, honest guv" players complete
the Oval squad and although results have been mixed, the future certainly
looks promising.
Freshford started brightly, using the channels effectively, testing
the young and not so young full backs, but failing to deliver an
effective final ball. Having soaked up the early pressure Oval then
took control from start to finish.
A couple of speculative efforts were well saved by the Freshford
keeper who started brightly but was left to rue poor positioning
in the second half.
Chris Peck was the first to punish freshford after 25 minutes with
a neat finish after a ball was crossed in from the left.
Oval went into half time 1 - 0 up and looked very comfortable.
After the break the young guns came out blazing and gave Freshford
a football lesson. A lack of belief and players critising their own
team mates contributed to Freshfords downfall as they were outplayed
with further goals from Anthony Conradi (2) and Paul Stevens.
An excellent performance by Oval ensured they can now go into the
New Year looking to push for a top three finish. Freshford are involved
in what appears to be an early relegation battle next week with Oldfield
Sports. They will have to improve on this performance to take anything
from that game.
