Freshford Sports 7 Frys Club Old
Boys 4 (Odd Down)
Writer: James Lindsay of Freshford Sports.
Freshford found themselves involved in yet another high scoring game
at Odd Down Playing Fields. Having conceded an incredible 29 goals in
3 games Freshford were looking to record their first win in the league
this season against Fry's Old Boys
With a number of seasoned campaigners in their squad Fry's were looking
to kick start their season after a slow start. With a bitter wind, strong
winds and a sodden pitch players could have been excused for a lack
of enthusiasm, however, both sides attacked from the outset and continued
for this policy for 90 minutes!
With an early goal having been correctly disallowed for offside, Fresford
continued their pressure and took the lead through Andy May's first
goal of the season.
Fry's then upped their game and dominated for most of the first half.
Having conceded heavily in recent games Freshford appeared to lack the
confidence to bring the ball down and play it around, while Fry's Old
Boys started to use the channels to exploit the ever increasing gaps.
Somehow Freshford hung on and went off for half time wondering just
where the next goal was coming from and just how long they could keep
Fry's at Bay.
As far as we know there were no energy drinks lurking in the bottom
of the kit bag but Damian Larkins three shredded wheat must have kicked
in as he came out for the second half like a new man. "Saving meself" was
his claim!
Freshford used the wind to their advantage, exploiting the same gaps
as Fry's had just a few minutes earlier. Damien was on the end of two
great crosses to send Freshford into a 3-0 lead. Fry's recovered their
composure and a cool finish brought it back to 3-1. Simon Richards finished
a neat move with a great strike in to the top left corner and Damien
Larkin pooped up again top to record his first hat trick this year to
make it 5-1.
